Kuusou Forest I (空想フォレストI Kūsō Foresuto I) is the twenty-seventh chapter of the Kagerou Daze manga.
Summary[]
- The chapter begins with Marry recalling the promise she made with her mother, that she would never go outside until she was grown up. The next panel goes to when Marry was young, and she is drawing a picture with crayons. After she finishes it, she decides to show it to Shion. Shion closes a book that she was reading, smiles at Marry, and pats her on the head. Marry notices it's nice outside, so she asks her mother if she can go outside, but she notices Shion making a worried expression. She then quickly changes the subject and questions her mother if she could read her a story.
- As Marry's mother reads the book, she thinks about the outside world where she can't go. She wonders about the world, how mysterious it is, and if there exist princes and princesses like in her book. Then she asks how many more nights she had to sleep before she is a grown-up or if she will ever really be one, as well as wondering when did her mother become one.
- As the dream continues, Marry finds Shion napping when she wanted to show her a new drawing. At first, she is annoyed by this but then takes the chance to explore the outside world. While she plays outside the house with a butterfly, two men come up to her, attack her and attempt to but her in a bag. Before the men could finish this, the man holding the bag turns to stone. Shion appears and tries to lead Marry away, but she stumbles to the ground. The second man swings a piece of wood at the two, and, despite Shion using her eye ability on him, both mother and daughter end up in the Kagerou Daze. After exiting the Daze, Marry is standing in the rain in front of a grave that is next to the house. She recalls the happy memories she had with her mother, which causes her to fall to the ground and cry. During this event, she thinks how she knew everything about them (herself, her mother, and grandmother), how she isn't a princess or a human either, but a monster from the fairy tales. She apologizes for breaking the promise to her mother and thinks how just being together with her made her the happiest girl in the world. The last thought she has before waking up is that she hates this whole world, and wished that it would go away for good.
- Marry is woken up by some knocking on the door, which causes her to panic and fall on the floor. As the door slowly opens up, she covers her eyes from the sunshine. Standing on the door is Seto, who reaches out a hand to her and asks if she was the one crying.
