Yobanashi Deceive III (夜咄ディセイブIII Yobanashi Diseibu III) is the forty-third chapter of the Kagerou Daze manga.
Summary[]
- At the Tateyama family house, Ayano has just finished blindfolding Seto with a bandage. She is satisfied with her work, says that it is perfect, and then proudly brushes her hands. When Kano questions her what she is doing, she explains that since Seto complained about how embarrassing it is when his eye ability activated, she decided to fix the problem by hiding his eyes. Although she gloats about her idea, her other three siblings aren't as impressed with it. Kido and Kano point out that Ayano cannot blindfold Seto every time his power activates and that it is pointless to hide his eyes after it has already gone out of control. Their comments make her reconsider her approach, and a moment later, she gleefully spins towards Seto and asks him if he could live with a blindfold on forever, to which he frantically replies that he can't.
- After he unwraps the bandage from his head, Ayano asks him why he wants to hide his eyes in the first place. She doesn't understand why he would do that, since she thinks that having red eyes is cool. Seto doesn't share her view, since being different disturbs other people and causes them to call him a monster. Although it doesn't creep Ayano out, Kano agrees that it is weird for most people, and for that reason, the three of them rarely go outside.
- Ayano solemnly looks down in thought, and after a second, gets a new idea. She walks over to the nearby bookshelf and crouches down to look for a specific book. After she finds it, she flips to a page where a superhero in a red suit is striking a pose and shows it to her siblings. Her reasoning is that since heroes on TV always wear red, then the red eyes that the three of them have are meant to help people. While Kano isn't impressed by this idea, Seto and Kido like it, with Seto even hoping that thinking that way will help him get stronger. Ayano then takes a red muffler that is folded over the bed frame, wraps it around herself, and declares the formation of the Mekakushi Dan. The Mekakushi Dan is supposed to be a secret organization that fights evil. At that moment, their mother enters the room with shopping bags in her hand. She says that they will need outfits for this organization, so she gives them hoodies that will help them hide their eyes. Kano still isn't convinced, but Ayano, Seto, and Kido encourage him to join them, and after he sees how giddy all of them are, he agrees to it. The siblings leave the room together for their first mission, where they patrol the neighborhood.
- Kano continues to narrate over scenes where the children open gifts on Christmas and then go cherry blossom viewing together. He explains how even though they weren't related by blood, he felt like he was part of a family, and that those were the happiest moments of their lives.
- The scene then changes to the time when Seto ran away from home after his eye ability went out of control. In their room, a tearful Ayano tries to call Seto, but she is not able to as he has no signal. Although Kano tries to reassure her that Seto is okay since they managed to talk to him before, she still wonders why he ran away. Her brother explains that Seto probably ran from home due to all of the voices he heard after he lost control of his ability, but Ayano still wishes he had talked to them if it was that hard on him.
- After a short flashback where he remembers Seto tearfully explaining that the thought of hearing the thoughts of his family made him scared, Kano replies to Ayano that even though they are a family, they can't talk about everything. He continues, saying that although she thinks that their abilities are cool, in reality, they are strange, and if they do not fix them, they will never be happy. Ayano is stunned by what Kano had said, but she gets a burst of determination and grabs his hand. She reassures him that everything will be okay, that she will always be there for him and that she will do everything she can as his sister to make sure they all can be happy. After she finishes, Kido walks into the room and informs them that Seto has come back home and has brought along a girl with him. That shocks the two of them, and Ayano runs over to the hallway to meet this mysterious girl.
- Back in the present time, Kano is walking down the street while carrying an unconscious Momo on his back and talking to Ene. The cyber girl asks him what happened to them after Marry arrived, and Kano's reply is that it was the start of his family falling apart. That makes Ene shiver out of shock, but right then, a voice calls out to them. As Shintaro runs up to them, Kano remarks how he got there fast, but quickly stops when he sees his sister with Shintaro. While Ene questions what is happening, he snidely says to Ayano, "You're still alive, sis?"
